National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology - here are eight ideas to help you get involved.
Established in 1997, National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. Held each August, it features more than 1,000 events around Australia, including those delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres.
Attracting a wide audience from children to adults, and science amateurs to professionals – over one million people participate in science events across the nation.
The aim is to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public, and to encourage young people to be fascinated by the world we live in.
To help you explore science this National Science Week, we’ve rounded up a selection of ideas for you to uncover at home if you can’t make it to an event near you.
1. Go on a virtual excursion with trivia, minibeasts or go beneath the sea with ROV’s (various ages).
2. Join Girls Day Out in STEM (GDOS) on their Future New Worlds Tour (age 10 – 14).
3. Dance with CSIRO’s digital human as they demonstrate technology in sport.
4. See how science and film collide with SCINEMA, the International Science Film Festival.
